Kentucky Agricultural Leadership Program
The Kentucky Agricultural Leadership Program (KALP) is an intensive two-year program designed for young agricultural producers and agribusiness individuals who want to further develop their leadership skills. The program consists of domestic seminars devoted to important and timely issues affecting agriculture and sessions focusing on improving participants’ communication, leadership and management skills. By improving communication skills, broadening understanding of major policy issues — especially issues facing agriculture and rural communities — and gaining an understanding of the effects of internationalization (globalization) on agriculture and rural communities, program graduates gain the self-awareness and confidence to be effective leaders. Seminars will be held in varying regions of Kentucky to compare and contrast challenges and solutions in agricultural practices. Classes also visit Frankfort, Washington D.C., other areas of the United States and other nations. The program has graduated 291 participants over the course of 11 classes.
