Dr. Alex Yiannikouris is the group research director (specializing in chemistry and toxicology) and global mycotoxin management research director at Alltech.
At Alltech, Yiannikouris leads a strong scientific R&D program and collaborative network that focuses on synthetic and analytical chemistry; biochemistry; microbiology; genomics; proteomics; glycomics; metallomics; metabolomics; and animal testing for product efficacy evaluation and compound discovery. More specific areas of interest include mycotoxins and food chain contaminants; development of analytical methods; vitamins, trace minerals and novel bio-actives, and organic selenium applied to life sciences; natural product research and the combinatorial use of phytocompounds, polyunsaturated fatty acids, mannan-rich bioactives, etc.; and integrated commercial and regulatory applications.
Yiannikouris received his doctoral degree in biochemistry in 2004 from Blaise-Pascal University, co-supported by Alltech and the National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA) in France. He also holds bachelor's and master’s degrees in cellular biology, microbiology and parasitology, as well as a master’s degree in pharmacology, human nutrition and food science.
Yiannikouris joined Alltech France in 2004 while completing a postdoctoral commitment in environmental analytical chemistry in the laboratories of the National Council of Scientific Research (CNRS) in France. He joined the research department at Alltech Headquarters in Nicholasville, Kentucky, in 2007.
Yiannikouris has given lectures in more than 50 different countries and has written for over 100 scientific publications and international communications. Since June 2015, he has served as an adjunct assistant professor in the department of animal and food sciences at the University of Kentucky.
