Dr. Flavio Medeiros is a professor of plant pathology and biological control of plant diseases at the Federal University of Lavras. His work focuses on research, teaching and outreach on the role of microbes and other biotic elicitors to promote plant health and improve its performance. Medeiros has published more than 30 peer-reviewed publications on the subject and has trained 16 agronomists and biologists at the graduate level (12 master's degree and four Ph.D. students) on the subject. He also serves as a consultant at the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development and as a section editor for biological control at the Tropical Plant Pathology journal. Medeiros received his bachelor's degree in agronomy from the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco with a one-semester course at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. He received his master's degree and Ph.D. in plant pathology from the Federal University of Lavras with additional training at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, and sabbatical training at Wageningen University & Research in Wageningen, the Netherlands.
