Dr. Karina Horgan

Associate Research Director, Alltech

Dr. Karina Horgan is an associate research director at Alltech’s European Bioscience Centre. She previously acted as platform leader for yeast and yeast cell wall applications and has more than 20 years of experience in the animal nutrition industry.

In her current role as biology division leader, Horgan has established a cellular biology research group whose primary focus is the development of intestinal models to investigate product-specific effects on gut health.

Her research interests include molecular fingerprinting, nutrient bioavailability, antibiotic resistance and more. She has also played a role in developing assays in conjunction with regulatory authorities.

As part of her responsibilities, Horgan has supervised numerous master's and doctoral projects. Early in her career, Horgan was awarded a Ph.D. fellowship by Alltech. Her fellowship research focused on the synthesis, characterization and bioavailability of organic chromium complexes.
