Director of Applied Research, Pipestone Veterinary Services
Dr. Scott Dee is a board-certified veterinary microbiologist and the director of Pipestone Applied Research (PAR) at Pipestone Veterinary Services. PAR is a business unit that conducts collaborative research efforts with production companies comprised of approximately 2 million sows across North America and Asia.
Dr. Dee is a past president of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians. After working in the swine practice for 12 years, Dr. Dee became a professor at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, where he studied the transmission and biosecurity of PRRSV. He also chaired the college's Admissions and Scholastic Standing Committee for 12 years.
Dr. Dee has been awarded more than $11.8 million in research funds. He has also published 162 papers in peer-reviewed journals (including the initial publications providing proof of concept of PEDV transmission in feed and the transboundary survival of ASFV in feed), as well as 202 scientific abstracts, 31 textbook chapters and 449 proceedings papers. Dr. Dee has been named the AASV Practitioner of the Year and has been the recipient of the Howard Dunne Memorial Award, the Leman Science in Practice Award and a Warrior Chip from the FBI Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate. In 2019, he was named a Master of the U.S. Pork Industry.
Dr. Dee received a master's degree in science, a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Minnesota. He and his wife, Lisa, live in Alexandria, Minnesota, with their two children, Nicholas and Ellen, and their Scottish Terrier, Matilda.
