Commercial Director, Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)
Esther Luiten is the commercial director for the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), which aims to be the world’s leading certification and labelling program for responsibly farmed seafood.
Luiten has more than 15 years of professional experience in the international seafood sector. As the head of the market development team at the ASC, she works to engage retailers and seafood brands. Luiten and her team also support producers and supply chain companies and help them understand the ASC’s standards as they work to achieve certification. The market development team also strives to strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, such as NGOs, governments and researchers in key markets and production countries across the globe.
Before joining the ASC, Luiten served as the program manager for the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) and was responsible for their aquaculture market transformation program. She has also previously served as the deputy director of the North Sea Foundation, a Dutch environmental organization.
Luiten holds a doctoral degree in innovation studies. She has a scientific background in environmental innovation and communication and is extremely interested in facilitating the global seafood supply chain’s transition to more sustainable practices.
