Jon Hoek grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, and was inspired to study agriculture by his grandfather. He holds a degree in agricultural production with an emphasis on swine management.
Hoek and his family owned and operated a farrow-to-finish swine operation for 10 years. Hoek also spent 20 years with Belstra Milling Company, where he most recently served as the vice president of pig production. In 2019, he co-founded Summit SmartFarms with Ed Bahler to serve the protein industry as a people-centric innovation broker and to create and assemble technology for optimizing results.
Hoek has lectured both domestically and internationally on the topics of pig production optimization and agri-tourism. He and his wife, Laureen, have four children and three grandchildren. Hoek enjoys participating in outdoor activities, reading, going to church and spending time with his family.
