Farm Animal Welfare Consultant, Systems Insight Ltd
Mandi McLeod is an international agri-business consultant who specializes in production animal welfare on both ends of the supply chain. She is internationally certified in dairy cow auditing by the Professional Animal Audit Certification Organisation (PAACO) and in food safety (HACCP) by the University of Western Sydney, Australia.
McLeod is a trained Cow Signals Master and has been an expert witness and trainer in dairy and beef cattle welfare for the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries and the New Zealand SPCA. As an experienced second- and third-party auditor, McLeod has experience in auditing livestock production farms in the U.K., the U.S., Australia and New Zealand. She has utilized her knowledge and experience to develop and implement on-farm animal welfare and food safety audit programs for dairy processors in Australia and New Zealand.
McLeod consults with farm businesses on animal welfare and has been involved in the development of animal welfare governance strategies for the Norco Cooperative in Australia and The A2 Milk Company in Australia and New Zealand. In 2019, McLeod was appointed to the expert panel reviewing live export trade legislation in New Zealand, and in 2020, she was invited to be the deputy chair of the animal welfare reference group for the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef.
McLeod was the first female agricultural TV presenter in New Zealand and is an internationally recognized speaker on such topics as family businesses and animal welfare. She is also a peer-reviewed author of many journal articles and contributed to the book “Keeping It In the Family”. McLeod holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science and a master’s degree in rural systems management. She is an experienced agricultural extension program designer and has more than 25 years of experience in group facilitation and family-farm business management, transition and governance.
