Farmer, Rooikoppies Dairy Farm
Neels Neethling is a second-generation dairy farmer from South Africa.
The Neethling family farm, now known as Rooikoppies Dairy Farm, was established in 1978 when Neethling’s father purchased a parcel of farmland 30 kilometers outside of Pretoria and started farming part-time with Beefmaster cattle and Dohne Merino sheep. In 1994, he expanded the property, added 40 milking cows to the operation and decided to permanently move onto the farm to manage the operation full-time.
By the time Neethling joined the family farming operation in 2012, the dairy had grown to 300 cows. Today, Rooikoppies Dairy Farm is one of the leading dairy farms in South Africa, milking 580 cows three times a day. Neethling invests in the best available genetics, implements the latest technology and produces top-quality maize silage to keep the farm at the top of its game. In 2021, for the second year in a row, Rooikoppies Dairy Farm was one of seven finalists for the title of SA Stud Book’s Elite Dairy Herd of the Year.
Before joining the family farming business, Neethling spent time working at a heavy industrialized float glass manufacturing plant. He received a degree in industrial engineering from the University of Pretoria.
