Founder, Horses Without Humans
Yvonne Barteau is a lifelong horsewoman and one of the United States’ most celebrated dressage riders. Barteau’s career has taken her from jumping and barrel racing to working with racehorses and equine theater horses. She has continued to pursue her passion for training horses while also earning gold, silver and bronze medals from the United States Dressage Federation (USDF), as well as gold, silver and bronze freestyle bars.
As the founder of Horses Without Humans (HWH), a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Barteau is dedicated to giving back to horses, who have given her so much. HWH is devoted to training and repurposing unwanted horses with the goal of finding them suitable lifelong homes.
Barteau’s knowledge reaches well beyond the 120-acre HWH training facility in Bell, Florida. Through her online and in-person classes at the ranch, she shares her expertise with anyone interested in adopting, buying or simply looking to learn more about horses. All proceeds from these classes go to HWH and benefit the adoptable horses, as well as the horses under evaluation.
Barteau and her husband, Kim, own and operate KYB Dressage, where they have trained more than a dozen horses to the Grand Prix level and have helped more than 80 get to Prix St. Georges. Barteau has also helped several horses and riders qualify for world championships and world cups and has earned dozens of national and regional titles herself. She was long-listed for the Olympic team with Liberty, a Dutch Warmblood stallion, and in 2015, her long-time training project, GP Raymeister, was named the most-winning horse in USDF history.
Barteau is also a sought-after equine entertainment producer. She produced and performed the sold-out Breyerfest evening show at the Alltech Arena for four years in a row, as well as “The Night of Dancing Horses” at the National Western Stock Show.
Additionally, Barteau has published two award-winning books: “Ride the Right Horse” and “The Dressage Horse Manifesto.” She has also authored multiple screenplays, in addition to writing, producing and directing several award-winning equine-focused documentaries.
